Mission & Goals

Mission of ITC

The mission of ITC is to serve the Hong Kong community through the provision quality education programmes, research, consultancy and professional in fashion and textiles. It is in line with the University's mission to achieve "Academic Excellence in a Professional Context" and the vision to become a 'preferred university' offering 'preferred programmes' and producing 'preferred graduates', as stated in the University Strategic Plan 2001 to 2007. The strategic objectives of ITC are:

  • to provide professional education covering the whole spectrum of activities in fashion
    and textiles, and develop 'all round' graduates with vision and a global outlook, a sense of
    social responsibility, and critical and creative thinking.
  • to provide quality education programmes at postgraduate, undergraduate and sub-degree
    levels for young people and the public seeking continuing education.
  • to conduct research and consultancy to underpin learning and teaching, and to create and
    disseminate knowledge to the academic community, commerce, industry, society, and the
    world at large.
  • to become a centre of excellence in fashion and textile education and research locally,
    regionally and internationally.
  • to lead and enhance the development of the fashion and textile industry.

Key Goals

The following are the key goals for ITC for the period 2004-2007:

  • to develop and consistently review academic programmes and subjects in fashion and
    textiles, with flexibility offered to students through the credit-based structure.
  • to further enhance teaching and learning in both teaching methodology and practice, and
    create an environment that facilitates learning, with an aim to stimulate students' interest
    and to better prepare students for their future careers.
  • to develop graduates preferred by the industry and commerce, who possess creative
    awareness, professional knowledge and communication skills to meet the opportunities
    and challenges in the work-place and the society.
  • to act as a knowledge centre for the industry and commerce in terms of enhancing their
    business development both locally, regionally and internationally.
  • to offer expertise to practitioners, in industry and commerce, across the spectrum of
    issues of textiles design, technology and business, to enhance operation of their business.
