Programme Aims

This programme aims to provide students with advanced technical training and knowledge of textiles and clothing covering the areas of fashion and textile design, production technology, coloration and finishing, merchandising and retail management. Students learn about textiles and clothing both in theory and practice. They are able to develop competence in textile and clothing production, and gain a global perspective on fashion retail and merchandising processes after graduation.

This scheme offers awards at the Higher Diploma and Higher Certificate levels. Graduates at the Higher Diploma level are expected to attain a broader perspective and achieve a deeper understanding of their specialised fields of study than their Higher Certificate counterparts.

Characteristics

There are various specialisms of study, covering the broad range of skills in the fashion, textile and related industries: fashion and clothing, fashion and textile merchandising, fashion retailing and textile processing.

Students are admitted to a specialism in accordance with their academic backgrounds and work experiences. They can also choose subjects offered by other specialisms to support their studies.

Programme Structure

The scheme is designed for students with a fundamental knowledge of textiles and clothing. Students follow a study programme determined by their entry qualifications. The duration of study is governed by the number of credits that are required for the chosen specialism (details of which are specified under the Entrance and Graduation Requirements).

Students can select one or more subjects in each semester. Classes for each subject are normally held once a week, and each class lasts for 2 to 3 hours per evening.
