The proprietary technology, RadianFab, for flexible display has been developed by the Nanotechnology Center for Functional and Intelligent Textiles and Apparel. The fabric comprises polymeric photonic fibers wrapped with textile yarns. Woven by a weaving machine, the photonic fabric is flexible, light and wearable, exhibiting a superior drapability and soft handle. The fabric is treated for light emission, amplification and modulation. The light sources coupled to the photonic fibers and power supply can be integrated into the fabrics. The system is capable of controlling color, light intensity, and self-amplification. These optical performances attribute to the structure and composition of the fibers, integration of nano particles and gain materials inside or on the surface of the fibers. The developed photonic fabric can be applied to apparel, decoration and other original design.
