Programme Aims
* To provide qualified graduates with specialised
fashion and textile knowledge at the technician/supervisory level for
various sectors of the industry, including textile processing, coloration and
finishing, fashion and clothing, fashion and textile merchandising and
fashion retailin
* To equip graduates with generic skills for
professional and personal development.
Aims of Awards within the
Scheme
Coloration &
Finishing (FAD)
* To educate students in the necessary
theories and skills on textile coloration and finishing
* To nurture competent technical supervisory
personnel for dye houses, testing laboratories, dyestuff and chemical
manufacturers, and domestic and well
as international trade organizations relating to the wet
processing of textiles
Fashion & Clothing
(FFD)
To
enhance students' competence in determining, monitoring and exploiting the latest developments in all forms of fashion products; their understanding of the production framework; and their ability to communicate with people in other
functions such as quality assurance in manufacturing and merchandising of
fashion products.
To
prepare students for employment in the areas of fashion/knitwear design,
production or quality control activities through an integration of
theoretical and practical training.
Fashion & Textile
Merchandising (FMD)
To
educate students to have a perceptive
understanding of the textile and clothing merchandising business
To
inculcate students with knowledge on how to smoothly coordinate and conduct transactions
between buyers and manufacturers/sellers
To
equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry as a whole,
with an emphasis on business and technology

Fashion Retailing (FRD)
* To educate students in the
principles and practices of the fashion
retailing industry by familiarizing them with global
positioning, trend
analysis
and consumer behaviour; together with an understanding of how to buy, manage and promote
sales
Textile Processing (FPD)
* To provide students with a coherent knowledge of
textile products
* To develop the students’ competence in advanced
technology and their knowledge of textile
production and related processes in order to serve the manufacturing,
servicing and business sectors in the textile industry
* To train competent production supervisors in
manufacturing activities or quality controllers in textile production plants
and textile buying offices
Entrance Requirements
For Entry with HKALE
Qualifications:
E
in one HKALE subject, or E in two HKALE (AS-Level) subjects; AND
E
in six HKCEE subjects including English Language (Syllabus B), and Chinese
Language or Chinese Literature or (for applicants who have not taken Chinese
since Secondary Five) a language other than Chinese and English; and one of
the following subjects: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry, Economics, Geography, and Art.
Alternative
Holders
of a Higher Diploma, Higher Certificate or Diploma in relevant fields of study (e.g., textile, clothing or design studies), from PolyU, the IVE or
the Clothing Industry Training Authority, or any higher education
institution, or an Advanced Diploma in a relevant field of study from the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel (HKITA), or equivalent qualifications in relevant fields of study may be
given credit transfer for most/some Year One subjects.
